Résumé / commentaires
The latest book in MBI's Railroad Color History series provides an illustrated history of the Canadian National , from its formation as a holding company for its various operating companies to today's international system that stretches from border to border in Canada and down to New Orleans in the United States. The ups and downs of freight traffic through the Depression, the World War II boom, and dieselization are well-covered, as are the railroad's passenger operations. The book concludes with a look at the privatization of CN in 1995, followed by its acquisition of the Illinois Central and Wisconsin Central. About 140 photos are included, most in color, with man large, striking views. Many sharp black-and-white historical photos are also included. Several maps show the current CN system as well as historical lines. Reproductions of CN timetable covers, brochures, and other promotional materials help round out this well-written, nicely illustrated book that makes an interesting read.
